Italy New Year 2007

December 2007, Sunday 30th, Matt, Arnie, Marcus, Finn and myself flew to Turin Italy for a weeks holiday in Sauze D'Oulx, Italy.

It was an early start, having to be at the airport for 5am but everyone was pretty excited about the holiday so the hour didn't seem to matter to much!

Italians seemed a lot less organised than the Austrains we have gotten used to. On arrival at the airport there was a lot of hanging around for luggage and they also managed to mislay quite a lot of it - thankfully not ours. But the hassle did cause delays on our arrival to the hotel but at least we got there in the end.

We spent our week at the Hotel Savoia Debili, where the rooms are comfortable enough (Even though possibly a bit small!), staff friendly enough and location faultless - being right next to the main ski lift and 2 minutes walk from the main bars and restaurants.

The resort offers 400km of skiing and the conditions were good, in that they had a lot of snow during our visit. This was a new experience to me though - only having skiid in blue skies and sunshine before now. The resort is mainly red runs, with just a couple of black runs so at first seemed a bit daunting but the red runs I did manage seem more inline with blue runs in Austria so I guess the 'lable' differs from resort to resort. I still need to work on my 'head' though and sort out the fear of the slopes and 'whooshing people'

Sauze d'Oulx's village has a lot of charm and is very pretty. It wasn't as busy socially as we had expected but we still managed to have a good time - although, except for New Years Eve, I think we were all so tired with the run up to and Xmas that evenings were a lot tamer than ski trips of past....

All in all we had a great time, was good to have a week away after Xmas and delay the return to normal working life. We had a great time New Years Eve in a place called the Cotton Club, where the party atmosphere could not be faulted and Italy also had the fireworks in the street at the stroke of midnight so, in our minds at least, another NYE enjoyed away from home..... Have a look at the pictures below. Sorry not as many as normal, we were a bit lazy on that front this trip!!!!
